Episode #609 Ab Aeterno

The moment we started recording this episode a barrage of jack hammers and other construction noise from the street hit the house. Our place is unfortunately very open and the only room that has somewhat closed off walls is the bathroom.

So we headed into the bathroom, got comfortable and discussed "Ab Aeterno".

This podcast was recorded on December 14, 2009.

Listen here: 609 Ab Aeterno

Here are some pics from the bathroom podcast:

SURPRISE!!! It's Nestor Carbonell sitting on our toilet!

He decided to go back to the chair.

(Note: This was the last podcast where we used the nice mic and GarageBand to record. We had set up the phone to record this one as a back up and it's a good thing we did because the computer took a crap around thirty minutes and we lost yet another podcast. From then on we've used the phone only to record.)

And here are a couple of pics of us as prisoners on The Black Rock.

Beth died AGAIN!

Thank you guys so much for posting these podcasts.

It's awesome that you've put so much time into this project where there is no tangible reward, other than the fan appreciation and being a part of the community.

You're sitting there, fortified in your bathroom, like a cross between Al Bundy and Walter Cronkite. I can't help but think-- "this is dedication."

Thanks again.

Oh, wow, I totally had a 2XL too. I can't believe Jorge remembered a random bit of trivia from that thing. :)

Love the pics!! Nestor seems like such a fun guy. Can't wait to listen to this. Thanks for all your work on the podcasts ... even if you have to lock yourselves in the bathroom to record them haha! ♥

Ha ha. The bathroom, with Nastor sitting on the toilet. That made my morning. Thanks for sharing. I'm downloading the podcast now, it's quickly becoming my favorite.

Beth rocks for singing(?) "Hollywood and Vines".

Tremendous acting job by Nestor, so many talented actors in the Lost cast.

Hey guys, I'm from Chile and I can assure you that "Guagua" means baby. In fact, we almost don't use the word Bebe (Baby).
Jorge, I saw the episode yesterday and I heard your spanish accent, it wasn't very chilean, I guess you'll have to come to the motherland to revive your chilean power.

Jorge, you are even more The Man than I realized. Podcasts, dude? Awesome. Someone just put a link to you on another board, so this is my first visit. Looks like I gots me some downloading and listening to do. So much for sleep tonight.

I really wasn't into Richard's Chiquita banana love story last night, but I thought the scene with the three of you at the end was beautiful. It was amazing that you were able to pull me in emotionally at the end of an episode which, character-wise, did not do much for me. Not that I didn't like it, but I am just used to luuurrrving it, week in and week out. I just thought they kind of shafted Nestor by giving him such a stereotypical, by-the-numbers back-story so late in the game.

But don't get me wrong, I am loving this season to date. This was really the first time I felt even mildly let down, and that might just say more about me than it does about the show. Because the show is frakkin' fabulous, and I am one who has dug the Sideways Stories all season long.

Again, thanks so much for your work on the show, and now on these podcasts. Hugo rocks.

Wow - what a great episode and a great podcast to follow it. Thanks.

You most definitely must continue doing podcasts even after Lost *sniff sniff* ends. You guys could talk about what you had for breakfast and make it entertaining!

Dl-ing the podcast on my iTunes now. While watching the episode, aside from having the extreme want to watch some period dramas, all I could think about was "what will Jorge and Beth say about this? What tidbits of wtf-ery have I not caught on to? (everything, usually).

WOW! Nestor was outstanding in this episode. It was truly heartbreaking. Another amazing performance this season. I'm not ready for it to be over!

I'm really enjoying the podcasts! Thank you so much for taking the time to record and edit them. I'm still surprised you're asking for emails from us...don't you know we're crazy?! ;) Love the pictures too!!

PS - My doggies would like to say Hi to Nunu. :)

You guys sound so sad at the beginning of the podcast. I'm sad too -- I'll miss the show and all of the related whoo-ha (blogs, podcasts, analysis articles) and so forth. I appreciate all that you shared with us about the show's behind-the-scenes info. And you've done it without being spoiler-y...

Can't wait to see what comes next for Hurley in Lost and I also look forward seeing you in other cool things.

Awesome podcast. It's great that you got Nestor in there. What a great performance last night...a 48 minute Emmy reel, that was.

Also, Nestor's pretty handsome. That guy must have a 5 o'clock shadow 24 hours a day.

re: guagua, it's totally regional. In Cuba & Puerto Rico (presumably in D.R. & elsewhere in the Caribbean) guagua means "bus" but elsewhere in the Spanish speaking world (like in Chile) it means "baby."

The moment Sidekick 22 recites the "trek" music theme is amazing! When you also sang the tune of the later melody I was astonished!

The podcasts are great guys!

Nestor is a pretty hot guy, not gonna lie.

Him on that horse pretty much made my life.

The biker kid in Twin Peaks was named Hurley. Maybe Hugo was a fan of that show. Okay, yeah, that's a stretch. But that Hurley was kind of a good guy, "pure soul" too.

Regarding who the smoke monster can impersonate: I think when it does the flashing/mind reading thing, it's getting images from the person's memory of someone to impersonate. It did that just before "Isabelle" appeared on the Black Rock. Looking back, I think that every time Smokey did that flashing stuff, a person from the subject's past then appeared.

I love Nestor Carbonell (most gorgeous eyes ever!). Think you can convince him to leave his wife and come live with me in Maryland? Tell him I promise to be nice. His island story was completely different than I thought it would be. I was sure he was of Egyptian descent on the show.

Anonymous said...

I have to echo what Χρήστος said about Beth singing the trekking across the island theme! That was great! Oh, and I cracked up when Jorge was talking about 2XL, because I had one of those when I was a kid! I thought it was hilarious that neither Beth nor Nestor had any idea what he was talking about. Hehe. Anyway, great podcast! I can't believe I only discovered it just the other day!

glad you guys are confused by the Other's motives too

Guagua is also "bus" in tenerife where Richard Alpert started his story!

I live there for a year so loved that it has been used in Lost.

Phenomenal episode, and an outstanding performance from Nestor. And that scene at the end with Richard, Hurley and Isabella was just gorgeous. Kudos!!

Another great podcast. Really cool to hear from Nestor too; I thought the insight on his accent and facial hair was especially interesting. Funny to picture you guys recording in the bathroom. I'm glad you switched to the phone; I'd hate to think of you losing another podcast!

Oh, yeah, and Beth, loved your rendition of my favorite Giacchino adventure music!

Fantastic episode again guys! Really enjoyed having Nestor there as well, sounds like a cool guy.

Totally LOL'ed at Sidekick humming the "traveling theme" when Jorge was talking about Exodus.

Was neat to hear Nestor actually put research into his role. I'm wondering though, in 1867, maybe the accent would of still been Castillian.

I interpreted the scene with Isabella in the Black Rock as a dream Richard was having, perhaps one influenced by the MIB (similar to how Locke's dreams on the Island occurred).

Richard's demand for eternal life did feel a bit awkward. I rationalize it as a reaction to what the priest told him: he could earn penance for his sin, but only by working for salvation over a long time. Living forever would give Richard enough time to sooth his soul perhaps...

Really cool to hear you discuss all the behind the scenes stuff again. All that talk about flocking was funny, considering the nickname Flocke we've given the MIB... hehe

Loved the podcast! Nestor and AbAeterno were AWE-SOME.

FAN QUESTION: What's the name they give in the script to Titus Welliver's character, the Man In Black?

If his name's a spoiler, plz don't spoil us!

elainemarieg said...

I agree with Nick - Nestor should win an Emmy award. And you were great in the scene together!

I loved my 2XL!!!!!! I learned about Halley's comet from it. And I still can quote random trivia learned playing with it.

Wonderful episode.

This podcast makes me feel OK also in the perspective of LOST's end one day (I'm trying to stop thinking in that way anyway).

And I will love if you will continue with this podcast even after it, just about everything, because it's so great to listen you speaking in my headphones. Usually I'm coming back home from work with train. But now I'm coming home walking down the streets, just to have time to listen to you and to enjoy it (even if it's raining). Just wanted to say it.

I'd just like to hear you guys (Jorge and Beth) do a podcast post-Lost as Jorge and Beth! You guys are fun as a couple.

Anyone give this theory yet: Lost island = Spider-Man Secret Wars?

Just wanted to say how much I enjoy your perspective(s) on LOST. Your talking about what's in the script, the script notes/stage directions, your impression, the pre and post episode watching takes is just awesome.

Thank your guests profusely, too- Michael and Nestor and... It is so cool that you and they would take the time to do this sort of thing when you all probably have things that are way more exciting for you to do.

I love the pictures that go along with the podcast.

Came across this poster someone made for the episode, thought it was very cool.

Ah, I see Nestor was given the royal treatment. Yeah, go ahead... point and laugh at me...

I can't believe I only today found this site/podcast. How ridiculous. Well, at least I now have something to help past time in between episodes. And maybe I'll still have some left to listen to after the show's over? No idea how long you two have been doing this. But thank you for taking the time to do so! Enjoyed your latest one (Candidate), off to listen to this one now. :)

Hey, I have that same Samson mic. If you still have it you should know it is a side address mic, you need to talk into the side with the green light on it. I did the same thing as you when I first used it, sounds a lot better when you actually talk into the side! :-)
